He was born in the village of Andes, located near Mantua, and had a sweet childhood amidst the rural countryside. He received education in Cremona, Milan, and Rome to study medicine, rhetoric, and astronomy, which later led him to discover his true passion for philosophy. His father was noble, humble, and wealthy, which allowed Virgil to receive his excellent education.
Virgil is described as dark olive skinned, tall, and appearing as a "countryman." He was lacking in health, shy, and loved nature. His sweet and tender nature are just a few of his characteristics that gave way for him to become a renowned poet.
Virgil ordered his most popular read book, the Aeneid,to be burned because he did not think it was sufficient enough; however, Augustus ordered that it rather be published than burned after his death.
Fun Facts: Virgil's collection the Eclogues were read both a prophecy of tranquility and Christianity. He is one of the greatest poets in the Rome's Golden Age. Virgil's father was blind and his mother had two still born children.
